One of the best books I’ve read on Christians living through trials, enduring suffering, sustaining through lloyd-jonnes labors, learning to be content, and laughing at the time to come by standing on Christ.

This book is not about depression in the more clinical sense although it does touch on topics relevant to that as wellbut focuses on any cause of distress or unhappiness in the Christian life. A collection of 21 sermons originally given at Westminster Chapel in the ‘s, the book dates itself somewhat with the universal use of “man” for humanity, repeated references to the events of the early 20th century, and a lloydjones style with long paragraphs which require concentration to fully appreciate.
Morals don’t change or anything like that, but how God works in us with our own temperaments is interesting. Toward self-pity or more flaming arrogance. Well, I appreciated the fact that he sees that we are all different and God works with us differently. I didn’t pick it up nearly as quickly as I would have if it had been titled differently!
God isn’t miraculously healing me, but in stages Want to Read saving…. I read this book because I struggle to find joy as a Christian, and because it came so highly recommended from a variety of sources, one of them being R. This book is essential for every Christian to read. I highly recommend this book for people battling depression or people who know of folks battling depression.
