The future of Spain and England will be on display Saturday, as the countries battle it out for the FIFA U-17 World Cup title.
In the United States, the match is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. ET and will be broadcast on Fox Sports 2. Those with a cable subscription that includes that channel can watch online via Fox Sports Go, but if you’ve cut the cable cord or don’t have FS2 as part of your subscription, you can still watch at no cost by signing up for a free trial of one of the following live-TV streaming services:
Fubo TV: Fox Sports 2 is included in the main channel package, “Fubo Premier.”
DirecTV Now: Fox Sports 2 is included in the “Go Big” and Gotta Have It” channel packages.
Sling TV: Fox Sports 2 is included in the “Sling Blue” channel package.
Again, all of these options include a free trial, so you can watch the U17 World Cup final at no cost.
It’s been a mostly dominant display by each country up to this point.
England’s biggest test was in the Round of 16 when they fought Japan to a 0-0 draw before winning on penalties. After that, the young Three Lions made easy work of the United States, 4-1, and proceded to dispatch football giant Brazil, 3-1, behind the second hat trick in a row from Rhian Brewster:
For an England side that has disappointed at the last two World Cups, a win Saturday would give them the U20 and U17 World Cup titles in the same year, signaling a blindingly bright future. Manager Steve Cooper discussed what that would mean:
To think that we would be the holder of the two development World Cups would be an amazing achievement, but I also think you have to look a bit further than that. It’s also great recognition for what is going on with youth academies and the England teams, the work that is being done and it’s really showcasing the talent and the potential these boys have.
Spain, meanwhile, has knocked off France (2-1), Iran (3-1) and Mali (3-1) to rebound after finishing second in their group. Abel Ruiz’s six goals during competition is second to only Brewster, whose six goals in the last two matches has run his total to seven.
A victory for La Rojita would give them their first ever victory in this tournament. They’ve finished as the runners-up in 1991, 2003 and 2007
